About the Galapagos
Officially known as the Archipelago of Colon, the Galapagos remaining 972 kilometers off the coast of Ecuador. The Archipelago covers approximately 8000 km2 and consists of six main islands (Isabela, San Cristobal, Santa Cruz, Floreana, Santiago, and Fernandina), 12 smaller islands, 42 Islets, and countless small rock formations.

The Galapagos Islands began emerging from the Pacific Ocean 5 million years ago after hundreds of thousands of years of underwater volcanic eruption.
Having literally risen from the sea, the Galapagos are in a position of near absolute isolation, a living laboratory and a perfect place for Mr. evolution as Darwin discovered. The fact that the Galapagos have never been connected to a continent, along with their location at the confluence of three distinct oceanic currents, and their varied topography, have given birth to an amazing number of endemic life forms. The Galapagos are truly one of the great wonders of the world. Who can resist the image of a mystical moonscape on earth, giant tortoise large enough to ride, prehistoric iguanas basking in the sun, and sea lions playing in the surf.
Most visitors consider a tour of Ecuador to be incomplete without having seen the Galapagos Islands. One-week yacht tours of the Galapagos are the norm, and truly the best way to see the Enchanted Islands, as the Galapagos are also known. Each cruise has its own established route, and prices vary depending on the quality and itinerary of the yacht.
